One Lucky Duck

Hello Everyone! Happy Saturday:)

After leaving you yesterday I headed downtown to my usual ER shift. Many traumas came in last night, obviously not a good thing, and I also got to speak with a really interesting man who had been doing cocaine and heroin daily since age 16. He is now 50. He was such a sweet man and we had some really interesting conversations. Probably one of the most important things I've learned from volunteering and working in an ER is never to judge anyone. Some of the kindest and most interesting people I have ever met have been prisoners, or drug addicts, stigmatized individuals scorned by most.

One of the best parts of last night came after my shift when I convinced my friend Calvin I was pregnant as an April Fool's joke. Moohaha. I wish you could have seen the look on his face. . .

I returned home ravenous and grabbed a salad from a local deli, which I topped with some of my vegan bolognese. I made a huge pot of the pasta, and the Madre refuses to touch anything containing tempeh, so I guess I'll be subsisting off this for awhile.
Like a good filial daughter, I also brought home some banana cake from Magnolia for the Madre. I had a few bites
along with an ice cold glass of Silk soy milk.
This morning began with a nice bowl of banana and peaches topped with Fage Greek yogurt
I then completed a lovely 7 mile run through Central Park and studied.

For lunch I grabbed my favorite sandwich in the whole-wide-world: A toasted whole wheat baguette topped with tuna, lettuce, and tomato from The Muffins Cafe in my neighborhood. This is seriously the best tuna salad you will ever eat. The combination of onions and dill makes for one extremely flavorful tunafish.
For dessert I grabbed a thick slice of banana chip bread from Soutine Bakery
The remainder of the day was spent studying up at campus. It was Community Outreach Day, where a bunch of campus organizations perform community service. I personally am not a fan of the day since I believe community service should be a commitment and not simply a one-day affair.
For dinner I met up with the lovely Amy. I was super excited, since we were headed to One Lucky Duck. I actually attended high school around the corner from the eatery (a more casual adjunct to the famed Pure Food and Wine), but had never actually dined there. Upon Amy's recommendation I selected the taco salad and was greeted with a heaping bowl of greens topped with tempeh crumble, salsa, heavenly guacamole, and an utterly flavorful cashew sour cream. Holy yum. This dish was absolutely amazing. I kind of want to move into One Lucky Duck and eat their salads for every meal. Remember how earlier this year I was trying to find the best salad in New York? Well this pile of greens would definitely receive a grade of A.

My friend Ken from high school also happened to be visiting a friend working behind the counter. Random encounters are the best:)
As much as I wanted to try One Lucky Duck's ice cream sundae, my stomach was about to burst and I couldn't quite justify the 16 dollar cost. Instead, I waited until I got uptown and headed to Bombolino. I selected a small cup of hazelnut and caramel gelato
and was also kindly given a free miniature bombolino. Score!
Overall it was the perfect sweet note to end a wonderful evening:)

  2. One thing you def learn in med school is to judge NO ONE. Not only will you lose your patient's trust which will likely prevent you from helping them at all in any way, but you'll probably also jump to conclusions about them that may or may not be true. Good that you learned this early on!

What time were you running in CP? I saw a girl who I thought looked like you (I was running from 10:30 to about 12:30).

  3. I LOVE that salad! my favorite OLD salad is the S&M, simply because it is so HUGE that I feel like I'm getting so many nutrients while I'm eating it (this is definitely all in my head). all of their stuff is so good!

and that gelato looks divine... a new gelato place is opening in my 'hood (on 11th&university), so I forsee lots of it in my future.
