Hello everyone! Wow, I was beyond blown away by the kindness of your words yesterday. It is truly amazing how people who have never even met me can be so caring and thoughtful in their comments. I really appreciate it and it definitely helped cheer me up.
My migraine was so bad Friday night that it did not respond to my prescription medication or to any pain killers. I, therefore, was up the entire night and it carried onto the next day. I felt really awful and ended up staying home Saturday rather than hit the library. Monday I have two final exams, but luckily I still managed to be productive at home. One of the finals is for my global health class and the professor believes in "alternative testing" methods. He, therefore, provided us with eight essay topics and will randomly select two on the day of the exam and we only have one hour to complete them. Gah! Yesterday I spent the day drafting outlines for all eight topics, but I still have a ways to go. . .
Given my immense headache and queasy stomach, I stuck with bland foods for the majority of the day. For lunch I had a lovely scramble consisting of two eggs, mushrooms, and roasted pepper.
Later on the Madre's amigo came over and they enjoyed some hor d'oeuvres of really good Camembert cheese with crackers
And olives (which I probably had ten of)
I took a quick study break to have dinner with them, which consisted of a simple salad
And the best balsamic marinated flounder and turmeric infused rice that the Madre's amigo made. Deeelish! I ate way more rice than pictured here, it was perfect for my unsettled stomach!
For dessert I ran out to Levain Bakery, which offers the BEST cookies in New York City. Hands down. I am fortunate enough to know the owners who are great triathletes. The owners are two of the nicest women I have ever met, and you can definitely taste the love and passion that goes into these cookies. Connie kindly provided me with this double chocolate cookie, which was out of this world. The Madre's amigo could not stop raving about it. Thank you so much, Connie and Pam!
I also brought home a slice of ice cream cake from The Lite Choice. The perfect complement to that heavenly cookie.
When I got home I discovered the pooch up to her usual rapscallion ways. . .
Busted!
She then tried to finagle this toy from me, using her most convincing beggar face.
Geez louise, you would think she was only a puppy, but she's almost 12 years old!
Before signing off to hit the library, I would like to wish a Happy Mother's day to all the moms out there and to my Madre:
-She is a producer/director
-She grew up on Long Island
-She attended UC Berkeley for undergrad and Columbia Journalism School for grad school
That cake looks awesome! I can't believe we don't have anything like that here!
ReplyDeleteI'm bummed I never made it to Levain, that cookie sounds so good! Next year :) I hate when teachers do that kind of essay stuff, I'd rather just have to know it all, and then I don't leave the exam kicking myself for not remembering the one that showed up on the test. Good luck finishing all that studying, and happy mother's day to your madre!
ReplyDeleteaw your mom is so cool! i have heard so much about levain....
ReplyDeleteOh hun, sorry about the migraine! I know how terrible they are. I have had them that bad too. I find that the triptan drugs do help, like Imitrex, Zomig, etc. In fact, I had to take a Zomig last night because I had a sudden migraine come on! :(
ReplyDeleteyour dinner and all of your desserts look so good!! and your mom seems really cool! i want to meet her! (you too of course) good luck to you tomorrow!! i know u'll kick butt!
ReplyDeleteLove the post, you guys obviously have a special bond. Also love the facts! Didn't know she was a producer!
ReplyDeleteThose desserts look heavenly!
I'm in the same studying-boat as you--midterm tomorrow! Good luck w/ everything!
The madre is one fly mama! How cool that she directs and produces! And I am always jealous when her amigo comes for dinner... your feasts look delish!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Levain has THE best cookies. I love the chocolate chip walnut... in the summer, one of my favorite things to do with my bestie is grab a cookie and a ginormous iced coffee, take them to the park and lie in the grass for hours!
Good luck today :-)
